You'll probably never of come across us before, so firstly, here's a little bit about what we do.
Hackney Wick Drum Studio was set up late last year by myself, with the aim of giving top quality Drum Lessons to people of all ages and abilities in the London area.
After a little bit of reflection over the festive period, I've been generally happy with the way things have gone in the first few months (despite the usual procrastination and self doubt) that inevitably creeps in.
“Where I get my reward is helping people get started, seeing them progress with the more fundamental aspects of the instrument.”
What I came to realise however, was that I could take these lessons to the wider world using the marvellous tool that is the internet. I've always been slightly dubious about plastering myself all over the internet, not being a fan of my own voice and never happy with anything I end up recording, but what better time than now to give it a go and shake off the inhibitions!?
My aim over the coming weeks, is to record a weekly video (with accompanying blog post), giving beginner and wannabe drummers a complete guide to playing the drums completely from scratch.
I see so many fantastic videos on the internet of incredible people playing incredible things, and while that's mightily impressive, it really doesn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, the skill and dedication it takes to get to that level is really something to be applauded and I have nothing but respect for those guys and girls.
Where I get my reward however is helping people get started, seeing them progress with the more fundamental aspects of the instrument, and helping them build a solid foundation for their musical careers ahead, whether that be as a hobbyist, a mid level player, or the next world beater.
There seems to be a gap in the market for someone to explain in easy to understand language, how to go about learning the drums in easy to digest chunks. These upcoming videos and drum lessons will show you what to do and how to go about learning the basics behind the drums, some useful techniques, rudiments and exercises.
Each lesson will have accompanying sheet music which you can download from my website, and I'll always be just an email away if you have any questions and feedback.
So there you have it, bit of a mission statement I suppose. The videos will start appearing over on my youtube channel in the coming weeks.
